There is a lot of responsibility when it comes to owning a pet. You must care for it, clean up after it, and give it attention. There are also many reasons why it important to have a pet by your side.
“I think it’s important to have pets because they bring a lot of joy and happiness,” Megan Sellers, a junior at Cedar Crest College, majoring in Secondary Education with a Concentration in Biology, said. “I have two dogs and I love that they are always happy and excited to see me and they just bring me a lot of joy.”
Having a pet by your side brings so much happiness into not only your life but the pet’s life as well.
There’s also the issue of overcrowded shelters and these animals need a home. In fact, the number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them.
“I think owning a pet is important because there are so many pets in shelters right now,” Abigail Keck, a veterinary technician, said. “Lots of shelters and rescues are overcrowded so if more people owned pets it could help with that issue.”
According to statistics, people who own a pet lead happier and longer lives and are considerably healthier than those who don’t.
“I think pets can greatly increase your mental health,” Keck said. “They give you a reason to get out of bed in the morning because they are dependent on you.”
Distracting ourselves with our pets reduces some of our stress and anxieties. In fact, there are many other health benefits as well. Owning a pet can decrease your blood pressure, lower the risk of having a stroke, and reduce factors for cardiovascular disease.
Therefore, it is important to have a pet by your side.
