Here at the Crestiad, we take the arts seriously. That is why we decided to interview SAGE Student, Courtney Reyes, and ask her some questions about what art meant to her.
Spotlight on Courtney Reyes – SAGE Student Senior
Q. What is your major?
A. Integrated Arts with a focus on Business.
Q. What is your favorite medium to work with?
A. Before I attended Cedar Crest, it was digital art: Photoshop, Animate, and 3DS Max. However, I’ve recently discovered my love of acrylics thanks to Brian Higgins and Maggie Mills.
Q. Favorite class and why?
A. Painting Studio with Maggie Mills. I enjoy studio time with my classmates and Maggie is a great instructor. I have learned a lot about technique and trusting myself in the short time she has been instructing me. She also does a great job encouraging students to research artists outside of the classroom.
Q. What do you hope to do after school?
A. My goal is to find the perfect balance between studio time and something either business or teaching related. I would love to work in a gallery or in a school.
Q. Is there any advice you’d like to give other students within your major?
A. Experiment with different media! I began my college career as a Media Arts and Animation major and look at me now! Also, listen to your instructors. They have your best interest in heart.
Q. What is your greatest source of inspiration and why?
A. My family! I have eight brothers and sisters so I know I can always call one of them up if I’m on an art block; especially my brother Brian. He is beyond creative! I also look towards other artists and their journeys to help inspire me. My favorite artists at the moment are Sari Shryack, Alex Katz, and Julie Filipenko.
