Shows on Netflix to get you spring cleaning

The first time the weather is nice I love to open my windows and let the fresh air fill my apartment. As the wind swirls around the dust in my living room I am quickly reminded that it is time for spring cleaning.

It was not until I got my own place that I realized spring cleaning is so important. It is a fresh start to your living space. Spring cleaning can be hard to get started. You may not know where to start or just not feel super motivated to clean out everything you own. That is why I have compiled a list of great Netflix shows that can get anyone in the spring-cleaning spirit.

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo is a Japanese native who wrote the book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” published in 2011. The book took off and Kondo’s techniques to “spark joy” in everyday objects became a global phenomenon.

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo is Netflix’s way of bringing those books to life. We get to follow Kondo around as she goes from house to house helping people change their lives. Not only does she share some of her great techniques to cleaning, the viewer gets to watch how these work in real time. She helps the families declutter and make space in their home for the things that really matter.

The show is more than learning how to organize and clean. It takes emotional journeys into people's lives as they struggle with their daily way to spark joy.

Queer Eye

I usually do not go for reboots, but this is a game changer. Queer Eye consists of five men who make up the “Fab Five.” Each member has his own specialty; Johnathon Van Ness is grooming, Antoni Porowski is food and wine, Tan France is fashion, Karamo Brown is culture and lifestyle, and Bobby Berk is design.

The guys tackle complete makeovers of people's lives. They change the person’s mindset, not just what they wear. My favorite is Berk and his redesign of the person’s living space. At the beginning of every episode we see how the person is living. At the end of every episode we see the transformation that Berk did. It completely changes the person’s mindset when a living space finally reflects who they are. Watching him change a dull space to something happy and lived in always gets me in the mood to decorate my own space.

Interior Design Masters

This is not the usual doctor show I watch on BBC but it’s a close second in terms of my Sunday lineup of shows. It is a fun, competitive reality show about interior designers. I have just started this series and it's all about different types of styles and how they can be implemented into a house plan. The drama of a competition is fun to watch, and the end-product is a great motivator for cleaning my own space.

The springtime is all about birth and renewal. Plants begin to grow again and little ducklings swim behind their moms. It can be the perfect time to do some internal growth and reflect that into a living space. Clean out the negative energy in your body and your home this springtime and hopefully these suggestions will get you motivated.
